FARMA-APS INAUGURATES NEW MANUFATURING UNIT

With an investment of 30 million euros, the new manufacturing unit generated 100 new jobs. With a covered area of about 3600 m2, the new unit possesses the most recent and technologically advanced production equipments, from all around the world. This unit also integrates a Research & Development Lab, reinforcing the constant effort to develop new products and processes.

The Portuguese President, Cavaco Silva, considered this investment a good example of the commitment that the national companies should accomplish, contributing to the growth of exports and to the positive evolution of the national economy. Cavaco Silva also stated that this new reality comes as the result of a new, dynamic and more entrepreneurial management class, that is thinking and acting global, and that has realized that in order to be successful it is necessary to increase the technological development of production.

FARMA-APS’s Chief Executive Officer, Paulo Paiva dos Santos, admitted the existence, in Portugal, of exceptional
competitive conditions for the development of the pharmaceutical industry, given that there must exist celerity in the
project licensing process, legislative stability and a more bold management class. Paulo Paiva dos Santos also
reinforced the international oriented nature of this business investment, stating the already established agreements
with Germany and Spain. “One of our main goals is to be completely independent of third parties, when it comes to
suppliers. Given that, we are investing strongly on production. Also, we have to take into consideration that the
general market has a different perspective on generics. Communication campaigns are blooming and the people
are aware that generic consumption is a cleaver attitude.”
